Christina Oberhäuser

About Me.

t the heart of my work lies figurative painting with a particular focus on female figures. I am interested in how ideals of beauty and expectation are shaped within our contemporary visual culture and how social media amplifies them. In my paintings, I search for the subtle in-between spaces: for moments in which fragility and resistance are allowed to coexist.

EDUCATION.

2004-2016

Freie Waldorfschule

Bonn

My years at the Waldorf school shaped my creative development. Even as a student, I worked across disciplines in a hands-on way. Early steps in painting, ceramics, and the performing arts laid the foundation for my current practice.

2017-2018

Alanushochschule für

Kunst und Gesellschaft

Alfter

Between 2016 and 2017, I completed a portfolio course at Alanus University in Alfter (Campus II) that focused on materials and techniques in painting and on developing an artistic application portfolio. Alongside this, I produced studies on form, color, and pictorial space, tested various painting supports and binders, and documented the process in sketches and series.

2020-2023

Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) with distinction, University of Fine Arts (HBK), Essen

From 2020 to 2023, I studied Painting and Printmaking at HBK Essen, graduating with distinction. Throughout my studies, I developed my artistic practice under the supervision of Professor Nicola Staeglich, Professor Stephan Paul Schneider, Professor Markus Vater, and Professor Tim Trantenroth. My work focused on advancing my visual language, color theory, and composition through material-based experimentation in oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting, mixed media, and printmaking. In parallel, I attended seminars in art theory, aesthetics/philosophy of art, and art history with Professor Dr. Raimund Stecker and Professor Dr. Sabine Bartelsheim, enabling me to critically reflect on my artistic practice. Through colloquia and studio critiques, I developed series of works and large-scale paintings, explored etching, screen printing, and linocut, and worked across different media.

"Das Schönste wäre ja, wenn ich jenes unbewusste Empfinden, was manchmal leicht und lieblich in mir summt, figürlich ausdrücken könnte."

Paula Modersohn-Becker

"Der Ursprung aller Kunst, der Ursprung aller Kreativität, ist Liebe. Wenn jemand glaubt, es gebe etwas Wichtigeres, wüsste ich gern, was das sein sollte."

David Hockney
